I’m just coming off of two solid weeks without a phone or internet. What an ordeal! I felt as if my right arm had been cut off. LOL! The phone outage was a definite inconvenience, but it was the internet that was really tough to go without.

It wasn’t social media, marketing, or keeping abreast to the goings on I missed. (Although, the outage brought on a great deal of stress trying to work with my publisher on my upcoming book release.) Yet, it was interaction with my writing community.–the encouragement, the kind words, the knowing I’m not in this alone sort of feeling I truly missed.

Scripture says we are to “encourage one another and build each other up” (I Thessalonians 5:11). That’s exactly what Christian writers do for each other, or any like-minded group of people for that matter. Living in a rural area where there are no other Christian novelists around, I lean heavily on my on-line writer friends for support and encouragement. Being cut off from that backbone of support for so long gave me a sense of isolation.

Yes, there was an up-side to being unplugged. It allowed for opportunities to spend more time with the Lord, family, volunteering, researching for my next novel, even writing the opening scene. (I even took the opportunity to do some jobs I’d put off, like staining/waterproofing our porch and painting our bathroom). But the Lord created us for community, and how thankful I am for friends (both writers and readers) who spur me on and encourage me with their kind words.

A huge “Thank You” to all who have encouraged me in my Christian walk and in my writing journey! God bless you!

Who are you thankful for? Who encourages you? I’d love to hear from you!
