Today, I’m revisiting one of my favorite historical novels, A Noble Masquerade, by Kristi Ann Hunter. This was my first introduction to this author’s work, and it quickly put her on my Authors-to-Read List. Though it released in 2015, if you let this Book One in the Hawthorne House Series slip by, you’ve missed a fun read!
I instantly took to Lady Miranda Hawthorne and her non-conventional ways. A sort of tomboy of her day, Miranda’s distaste for the frivolous ways of social gatherings threaten to leave her a spinster. Fascinated with stories of her brother’s schoolmate, a duke, which she has never met, she finds herself pouring her deepest thoughts into letters to him, never intending them to be sent.
Mystery shrouds her brother’s new butler, a man with whom Miranda finds a growing fascination. But when he discovers her letters and mails one to the duke, Miranda finds herself In the midst of an unlikely romantic triangle and her first true adventure.
This is a fun-filled read with numerous plot twists that kept me flipping pages. I loved the intrigue and the vivid characters in this regency romance. The characters nearly leaped off the pages drawing me into the events of the story. This is a book I could easily read again and again. Its plot is fun, fresh, and thoroughly inviting.
Ms. Hunter has a way of pulling you into the internal thoughts of the characters and making you a part of the story. I’ve also read Book Two in this series, An Elegant Façade, with equal enthusiasm.
