My first novella collection released last month. Chiseled on the Heart is a unique collection of Christmas novellas in which four generations, each with their own set of challenges, persevere in their faith and resilience as they celebrate the birth of our Savior..
The storyline for my portion, A Lasting Legacy, came together gradually as my co-authors and I blended our ideas of a generational family of woodcarvers who collectively carved a nativity set.
My hero, Daniel Hawkins, returns from war a changed man–both physically and mentally. The love he and Maggie once had, though still there, is tainted by Daniel’s negative view of himself.
To overcome this obstacle between them, Danial and Maggie must choose to look beyond their failings and love with a Christ-like love. They must choose to be happy with the circumstances the Lord has given them.
We all have trying situations in our lives. Often we have to choose joy when life may not seem very joyful. But God is good. He never leaves us or forsakes us and for that reason alone, we should count ourselves blessed.
A Lasting Legacy, is set during the War of 1812. A new era for me, but one I quickly fell into and enjoyed both researching and writing about.

~ James Madison was president and actually fought against the British during the march on Washington!
~ The Battle of Bladensburg, Maryland was an embarrassing defeat for American soldiers and allowed the British to reach Washington and set it ablaze, including what was to become the White House.
~ The following day, a tornado ripped through the city of Washington uprooting trees and and blowing down buildings. But it extinguished the fires set by the British.
~ The British vacated the ruined city just 26 hours after invading it.
