I never thought it would happen to me. Not now. Not at my age. Not after my family had already been through so much this year.
But it did.
MUCH TO BEAR
My cancer diagnosis hit us like a slap on the cheek. Just weeks after my dad passed away from cancer. And months after my husband had an unexpected bout with it. This third punch in the gut was almost too much to bear.
I could tell by the expression on the tech’s face as she completed the sonogram that it wasn’t good news. The summons to speak with the radiologist confirmed it. She didn’t mince words, instead she tried to prepare me for what lay ahead. Her final words to me were “good luck” and “think positive”. In reply, I told her I had God on my side–so much better than “luck”!
THE TRUTH I’M CLINGING TO
I’m not sure how this journey will end. As I write, I’m awaiting results, more tests, surgery, and some sort of treatment. But I do know this. God is with me and will be every step of the way. He knows the outcome, and He holds me in the palm of His hand. Nothing surprises Him. That is the truth I’m clinging to.
As the days pass and my nerves become frayed and thin, I will pray. I’m gathering prayer warriors to fight this attack of Satan to discourage and impair me. Live or die. I belong to the Lord.
Do I want to die? No. Not anytime soon anyway. My oldest son is planning his wedding and my youngest has yet to meet the love of his life. I long to embrace their future, live to see my grandchildren, but God has a plan. He is in control. He knows what’s best. It’s my duty to trust and bring glory to Him in how I live and respond to this trial.
If you’re facing something hard today, I’d love to pray for you. And if you’d be willing to knock on Heaven’s door on my behalf, I’d be most grateful as well.

I am so sorry to hear this, Cynthia. My prayers will be with you.
If you know author Cindy Sproles you should connect with her. She has a similar story and could be a wonderful support for you. She has responded to every email I’ve ever sent.

Prayers for you! So sorry to hear of what you’re going through.
Thanks, Linda!
Praying for you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am a 15 years breast cancer survivor.
Thanks, Melissa. Very good to hear. Blessings to you. Wishing you continued good health!
I have no other words except I’m so sorry, Cynthia. Please know I’m thinking of you and praying for you.
(((Hugs)))
Thanks so much, Cheryll! Prayers are the best medicine! God bless you!
I am saddened to hear this, Cynthia! I will definitely pray for healing and for your family, too. Please pray for our daughter who is dealing with depression. She had a bout with it in 2017 and recovered, but it has come back. She has a very stressful job and that doesn’t help.
Oh, Linda. I’m so sorry to hear it. Will pray for her and you as well. So hard for a parent to watch their child struggle. Thanks for sharing. Blessings!
You are in my thoughts and prayers. You have such a positive attitude. I pray God will give you the continued strength, love and endurance for the road that lay ahead.
Thanks so much, Debra! His strength and peace are what I need most. Your prayers are so appreciated. Blessings!
I’m so sorry, and yes I will add you to my prayer list. If you would care to lift me up in prayer, at times, that would be great. I have suffered with stomach problems for 20+ years and this summer it came to a head and I had a scope done and I have some damage to my stomach and changing cells. No cancer yet, but they want another scope in 6 months.
Keeping you in prayer.
Clara
Thanks, Clara. Yes, I’ll pray for you. So thankful they discovered it before it turned to cancer. That’s a blessing! May the Lord watch over and heal you!
Prayers for you and your family. Having gone through cancer I know how much encouragement I got from most even strangers. God is with you and will always be, lifting you up, surrounding you with comfort and peace and loving you with His special love. God bless you and your family.
Thanks, Judy! I didn’t know you’d had cancer. Thanks so much for the encouragement. Lots of tests tomorrow and appointments Monday. I appreciate your prayers!
Cynthia, are you familiar with Elaine Miller’s book Praise the Lord and Pass the Chemo? Elaine shares her journey with leukemia and how she chose to face it with joy. I’ve not had cancer, so I don’t pretend to know what you’re facing. My husband is a cancer survivor. I think Elaine’s book will encourage you.
Thanks so much, Beth. Facing cancer with joy is truly an amazing faith. I’ve not reached there yet. But in time I hope to. I have peace at times and other times anxiety. Just ready to have this out and stressed over all the Covid worries. Thanks for your prayers and the book info. Blessings!
Dear Cynthia, my prayers are with you, too. I also would like to lovingly suggest to you that there are other options. Read The Only Answer to Cancer by Dr. Leonard Coldwell. He also has videos on YouTube. He believes in prayer, like we do.
Thanks Susi! I have a lot of people praying for me. I live in a very supportive community. Will definitely check out The Only Answer. Blessings to you! Thanks for sharing!
At age 46 I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer..20% survival rate..after a year of surgery..chemo..experimental drug..I am very thankful for every day more that’ God gives me. I will be praying for you.
I didn’t know that, Linda! Thanks for sharing. That gives me hope and encouragement. We take our health for granted. When something like this happens, it certainly makes us appreciate each day. God bless!
Praying for you as you go through your journey. We are also fighting cancer for 10 years now. My husband has metastasized renal cancer. And just found out a couple weeks ago that he has tumors on his hip bone. He already had 3 tumors in his body and spots of cancer in his lungs. Just pray that his new treatments and radiation will help if it’s God’s will. I also will have a CT scan in a few days on a spot in my lung the Dr has been watching for 2 yrs. Hopefully it’s not grown any. If not they may let me quit getting scans.
I’m so sorry, Brenda. It’s hard when one spouse is dealing with cancer and extra stressful when both are hit. Will pray for you both and that your lung will show clear! God bless!
Thank you. Yes God is good! I have added you to my daily prayer list, so I will be lifting you up each morning…and any other time God brings you to mind.
Thanks so much, Clara! I so appreciate your faithfulness in praying! Blessings!
You and family will be in my prayers as you go through tests to find out where you are. The waiting can be the hardest part. I will be that your medical team’s hands be guided by the Great Physician. One of the scriptures I always go back to is Proverbs 3:5-6.
Thanks, Sonnetta! You’re so right about the waiting. That’s the point I’m at this evening. I so appreciate your thoughtful words and prayers. Yes. Proverbs 3:5-6 is a good one. Blessings!
I am finally catching up on some email…and I will add my prayers to those who have already started praying for you. PLUS prayers for your whole family.
Thanks, Linda! I so appreciate your prayers!
