I woke to the potent scent of smoke at 2:30 a.m. this morning. We sleep with windows open whenever possible this time of year. My first thought (after dismissing the thought the house was ablaze) was that the stiff NE breeze was pushing in smoke from the fires in Canada. Then I recalled the car that stopped just to our south before I went to bed last night and the voices I heard before the car took off at a fast pace. And the fire that had been accidentally set along the road bank not far from our house two weeks ago.
With the drought still prevalent in our area, I started to get nervous. My husband had worked late the night before and was dead to the world, so I rose and went to the front of the house where I had seen the headlights of the car. I breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully no fire. The smoky smell indeed seemed to stem from the Canadian wildfires.
ISN’T GOD AMAZING?
This morning as I recalled the incident and thought about my work-in-progress (WIP), it struck me the next scene I’m writing includes one of my characters waking in the night to the smell of smoke (a scene I had already mapped out in my head)!
Isn’t God amazing?? What perfect timing to allow me a similar experience from which to draw upon. The Lord doesn’t waste anything. And neither do writers! You can bet some of the sensory feels and emotions I experienced last night will work their way into my story!
**How has God used an experience in your life which you recognized as His hand at work?
I am so glad you are okay.
Thank you, sweet friend! Enjoying each day the Lord gives!
It always amazes me when I read over a scene in my WIP and only then realize God had guided my hand and mind to write those lines. It’s a thrilling experience when you pray about your work and then let God guide you. So glad it happens to you too. The experiences He allows us to go through are some of the best places where we draw our inspiration.
Definitely! Thanks so much for sharing, Sharon!
