Most of us have heard of the Beatitudes from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5. Some years ago, I ran across a copy of a modern interpretation of the Beatitudes entitled the Be(Happy)Attitudes which summarize Jesus’ words this way:

“Blessed are the poor in Spirit”   ~   I need help; I can’t do it alone.

“Blessed are those who mourn”   ~  I’m really hurting, but with God’s help, will bounce back.

“Blessed are the meek”   ~  I’m going to remain cool, calm and corrected.

“Blessed are those who hunger & thirst for righteousness”~I really want to do the right thing

“Blessed are the merciful”  ~  I’m going to treat others the way I want others to treat me.

“Blessed are the pure in heart”  ~  I’ve got to let the faith flow free through me.

“Blessed are the peacemakers”  ~  I’m going to be a bridge builder

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake”  ~  I can choose to be happy regardless of my circumstances.

No matter how Jesus’ words are spoken, they can prove life-changing if we allow them to infiltrate our hearts and renew our spirits. How can we be salt and light in a dark world? Who do you know who lives out these BeHappyAttitudes in his/her life?

Next week, I’ll be sharing my review of Heidi Chiavaroli’s recent release, The Hidden Side. I hope you’ll join me.
