I’ve just recently finished launching my third book. Whew! I’ve been exhausted from all the whirlwind of activities. With all the guest blogs, launch parties, and book signings, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and consumed.
Now that things have slowed a bit and I’ve had a couple of weeks to reflect and renew my mind and spirit, I’m looking forward to delving into a new project. Starting a novel is both exciting and daunting. I know from experience now the time and effort that goes into not only the researching and writing of a historical novel, but also securing a publisher and launching a book.
My first three novels were under contract with a small press. Though I enjoyed my time there, I feel the Lord nudging me out of my comfortable nest. So with this fourth novel, I’m stepping out on faith, and seeking His wisdom and direction. I don’t know where He’ll lead, I only know He has called me to serve Him through my writing. To do that effectively, I need to stay connected to Him, the One who gives me strength.
In John 15:5 Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
When we attempt to do things on our strength instead of the Lord’s, we are like a branch that withers without the life-flow of the vine. Jesus is our life-flow. Our own strength will fail us. It’s His strength that nourishes our souls and sustains us.
When we try to go it alone, we are destined to failure. Christ alone is our strength, the One who empowers us to face life’s challenges. We need to stay in His presence, allowing our minds to feed on the sustenance of His Word and calling upon His name in prayer.
As you go about this day, I encourage you to spend time with the Savior. It’s so tempting to go about our busy lives accomplishing all we can, but when we lose sight of our relationship with Christ, we become fretful and disoriented. Take a few moments throughout each day to drink in His presence and stay connected to the One who gives us life and strength!
